What 4 mallet grip are you using?
Musser/Stevens grip, except I like to choke a little further in on the outer mallets - I find that this gives me better control on the outer mallets.

Nice and good idea! I'm gonna try Der Rosenkavalier on just 1 Timpani! You inspired me for this kind of challenge! (Probably need a 26 in drum with a range of a low F to a high G...if that's even possible...)
Thank you! Im glad to have inspired a challenge! The drum I had actually had a full range of Eb2-F#3, but Im sure if I crank it up a little, I could have a range of F2-G3, but it depends on the type of head and mechanics. Would love to see a video! 😊

My Mtech 5.0 is $146/mo, no interest. That’s less than my cellphone bill. I wish there were reasonably priced marimbas when I was in college. Practicing on a silent pad wouldn’t have helped me too much. Good job tho. Maybe it could be MIDIfied.
I thought MIDI-fying it would be cool, but probably a lot of work would be needed.

Where does one order those tenor timpani
These drums were made by the American Drum Company(Walter Light Timpani). In my opinion, Walter Light Timpani are the best timpani ever made. They have since gone out of business unfortunately. The next best spot that would be willing to make a set would probably be Precision Classic Timpani with Mark Guthrie.
